Monet's Mukluks

I created these for my Lhasa Apso, Monet, who's paws you can see grace this page. I had trouble finding aesthetically pleasing and functional mukluk patterns for free that I liked, so I made it up. These are rather simplistic, but this allows for YOU to be creative in its construction; Feel free to try different yarns, needle sizes, patterns, heel and toe styles as you desire. I wrote this as I was doing it, so you can understand MY construction method.

This is my first written pattern. I'm sure there are mistakes as I wrote this as I was making them. So if there is anything unclear, please email me at weavah.diva.creations@gmail.com and I'll try to help you as I can.

*Do not resell or redistribute this pattern for personal gain or profit. You may, however sell your creations or better yet make them and donate them to your local animal shelters and rescues. If you do choose to SELL your work, please give credit for the pattern. Thank you*

Skills
Measurements:
  • A. Width of foot
  • B. Length from toes to ankle
  • C. Length from ankle to knee
NOTE: Measure the back feet as well for a proper fit.

On my little Lhasa Apso, Monet the measurements for his front paws were as follows:
  • A. 1 1/2"
  • B. 2"
  • C. 4 1/2"

To interpret how many to cast on:
  • For every full inch: 6 stitches (3 on each needle)
  • For a 1/2" or less: add 2 stitches (1 on each needle)
  • For more than a 1/2" but less than a full inch: add 4 stitches (2 on each needle)
Toe
  • f8co the number of stitches you require
  • Round 1: knit
  • Round 2: *k1, kfb, knit until last 2 stitches on needle, kfb, k1* Repeat from * to * on other needle.
  • Round 3: knit
  • Repeat 2 & 3 until measurement A. is reached.
Foot:
  • Knit until meaurement for B is reached.
Heel
  • Use your favorite heel turning method. I knit in stockinette stitch on the 2nd needle a flap before continuing on with the rest of the sock, and sewed the openings afterward.
Cuff
  • Knit 2 rounds, making sure the seams are tight.
  • Start a 2x1 rib pattern (k2, p1), add a stitch or two in the back if you need to on either of the knitted rounds to accommodate the ribbing.
  • Continue ribbing til 1/2 of the measurement for C is reached.
*You may of course lengthen the cuff if you desire to.*

Cinching:
  • Weave through a piece of yarn (I burnt the ends with a lighter to prevent unraveling), shoe lace or sew in some elastic to make a snug but not too tight fit.
Continue on to the other 3 mukluks making sure you've measure the back feet.

Good Luck!

If you've made them, please post pictures. I'd love to see your doggies wearing them!
